SEW: A bit of history

1997 marked the year that HELIO International produced its first energy sustainability report series. 

From 1998 until 2001 HELIO further developed the report series, based on feedback from reporters, regional coordinators and report users.  The next series was produced for RIO + 10 (World Summit on Sustainable Development) in 2002.  The latest report series The Ultimate Challenge was launched in May 2006.  It was produced as input for CSD-14. 

Given the evolving nature of this work, the report structure, content and quality vary from series to series. In addition, earlier reports are presented on the website in their entirity where as later reports are available only in PDF.

Note: From 1997 to 1999, the core activity of HELIO International was called the Global Energy Observatory (GEO). In 1999, the HELIO Board decided that the name GEO should be changed to Sustainable Energy Watch (SEW) to describe better its expanding activities. Thus, documents generated prior to 1999 refer to GEO, while those produced after 1999 refer to SEW. Although the name has changed the activity and the efforts behind it remain the same.
